Recent Team Changes, and “Back in Black” Review
Black Label may not be the
most popular company in skateboarding, but it is well known, and does have
its loyal buyers. Or at least it did until recent changes in the team,
taking almost everyone off and replacing them with someone new all in time
to make parts for the anticipated “Back in Black,” which appeared on shelves
for $29.95.
The previous video by Black
Label, “Label Live,” was a hit. The team was as follows, Jason Adams,
Ragdoll, Kristian Svitak, Patrick Melcher, JUB, Chet Childress, Adam Alfaro,
Ben Gilley, John Ponts, Jim Gagne, Pat Rakestraw, Jhovanny Vidal, Jackson
Taylor, and Ricky Espinoza. When Black Label continued to keep pushing the
release date back, we knew something was up. Out of that entire “Label Live”
list, only 3 of them were in 2006’s “Back in Black.” Jason Adams went to
Enjoi, Ragdoll went to Pigwood, then to Birdhouse, JUB went to Consolidated
and became a Pro for the team, Ben Gilley is now on Zero, Kristian Svitak
has started a company “TenThirtyOne Skateboards,” which includes Jhovanny
Vidal, and there have been Rumors of Melcher being on a European Team.
Which only leaves... who
will replace almost the entire team? “Back in Black” team listing as
follows, Adam Alfaro, Chet Childress, Kyle Leeper, Pat Rakestraw, Matt
Mumford, Peter Watkins, Chaz Pineda, Anthony Schultz, and Chris Troy. This
video couldn’t of upset me much more then it did. (Yes I spent $29.95 on
it.) I’ve been looking forward to it for so long, and I was majorly
disappointed. I was, however impressed by newcomer Chris Troy’s part in the
video. But still, this is not the Black Label that many grew to love. My
suggestion to any “Long-Time Label Fans,” Keep a watch on TenThirtyOne
Skateboards video being released on Halloween entitled “ Bleed for me.”
