Bam Margera: Friend
or Foe?
As every skateboarder and
even many non-skaters know, Bam Margera has had a very large impact on the
Skateboarding community. Love him or hate him, you know who he is. But many
know him for the wrong reasons. He is seen doing “stunts” or wrecking things
more often then he is seen skateboarding. But that could be just part of who
he is, because as far Toy Machine’s “Jump off a Building,” [1998] Bam’s part
is still not 100% skateboarding, or even close to it. Many people don’t even
know of his career on Toy Machine, and only know of Bam and Element
Skateboards.
From a business’s point of
view, Bam is the person every company wants representing things, because he
does sell things and makes profit, but that just may be one of the only
things he is good at. Not to say that I myself have not watched the CKY
dvd’s, and I once owned an Element Skateboard also. But there are certain
levels that just become too extreme. It might be difficult to understand to
anyone who is new to the skateboard, but to anyone who has been around for
at least a couple years, Bam has become more of the enemy.
As much as many people
would like to see the end of Bam Margera, the skateboarding community needed
an individual like Bam more then it could of ever imagined. In the past 3
years think of how many Bam Skateboards, T-Shirts, Hoody’s, Hats and shoes
you have seen. I know as well as anyone that not everyone that bought a “Bam
Item” rides a skateboard, but I would guess that 75% of them have tried. And
out of that 75%, if 25% still skateboard today then it was a success. Even
though Bam is representing Element, Adio, and several other companies, His
fame has brought an increase in sales to all companies. Skateboarding needed
Bam Margera.
